Falken FOGGY SL321 is primarily designed for drivers that are often on the road in areas where low-stratus fog, ground fog or morning fog are prevalent. Poor visibility and wet roads can turn driving in fog into a tricky challenge. Now Falken has the answer. The new Falken FOGGY SL321 is fitted with sensors that automatically slow the vehicle to a speed appropriate for the density and type of the fog as soon as they come into contact with it. These sensors simultaneously activate a suction intake system that helps clear the fog and restore visibility. As the fog passes through the intake system it is converted into harmless oxygen and carbon dioxide and returned to the atmosphere.
The FOGGY SL321 was developed in close collaboration with the German Weather Service in Offenbach, Germany. The test facility at the weather experts’ headquarters was used to simulate a variety of types and densities of fog, in which the new tire was put through its paces. However, one form of fog known as cranreuch is found only in the Highlands of Scotland, so that tests also had to be performed there. Final testing of the new tire was also concluded in the region.
Development and manufacturing processes for the Falken FOGGY SL321 were adopted from Falken’s sister company, SRI Europe. The tire will be available in 90 different sizes for premium wheels from 17 to 21 inches.
“Our latest tire is a unique product that will further improve road safety throughout Europe”, enthuses Andreas Giese, Manager Product Planning at Falken tire Europe. “We are more than confident that this tire will rapidly become a high-seller, particularly in countries with long coasts and waterway shorelines where frequent fog is a problem.”“
A further product under development at Falken is the 2LIGHT0815 tire, which regulates driver behaviour in even the most hazardous situations to restore calm, smooth and safe driving patterns.
